Video Poker is a favored game that can be wagered on in casinos all over the globe, or alternatively at home on your personal computer, through a web account. The game rules are very simple and consist of the player attempting to get the best combination of cards as you can in order to come away with money. On this account it is very similar as a classic game of poker, minus the interaction with competing players. Of course, methods used in a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless here.
The game of Video Poker starts when the player inserts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and presses the deal button. A 5 card hand will then be electronically ‘given out’ on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and gamblers will need to now pick which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the player wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they want, from all to none.
After the player has chosen which cards he wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be dealt. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.
Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the pay out schedule can change from machine to machine, so that experienced enthusiasts are able to select the most money-making machine every time.
As soon as the initial round has played out, the player can either choose to remain on in an attempt to maximize their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that might have been won. Additionally, several versions of the game allow the player an opportunity to double their profits, in which case another round is played. There are also variations between specific machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other differing elements to increase playability.
